Mobile Communications - China Telecom Plans Two-Standard Investment
June 17, 2004
It has been reported that China Telecom is planning to invest approximately 80 billion RMB to construct a nationwide WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) network over the course of five years. An investment of a similar scale is also planned for the CDMA2000 standard.

Although the operator will need to wait until receiving 3G licenses before it can deploy the networks, China Telecom's Beijing office expects to set up 200 base stations before the end of 2004. Huawei has reportedly already begun supplying the carrier with WCDMA equipment.
